Rei: universal, cosmic, divine or what is present all around us.
Ki : the life force energy - the energy which keeps us alive.
Ki, Chi, or prana are different words, with the same meaning – life force energy
(Ki in Japanese, Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit). So Reiki is a divine cosmic
energy or universal life force energy. As long as the “ki” is in abundance in
our body, the body is healthy, happy and in harmony.
It is administered by laying hands on or above the body. During an individual
session, the practitioners place their hands on or two to three inches above
the fully clothed body of the recipient. With this holistic treatment, the
practitioner facilitates flow of the subtle healing vibrations to be drawn by the
recipient. The energy flows in and around the body as silken smooth, glowing
radiance, healing the whole person on the mental, emotional, physical and
spiritual levels. Reiki can be easily learned and practiced by everyone
including children.
Reiki cannot be learned from a book or the conscious mind. The ability to flow
the Reiki energy is acquired through an initiation, or attunement, into a
specific lineage of healing energy handed down through Reiki Masters, which
began with Dr. Mikao Usui. The attunement opens the chakras (the spinning
wheels of energy present in our body or energy centers) enabling the person
to act as an effective conduit for the transfer of the life force energy. This
process aligns the electromagnetic field of the body with Reiki energy and the
person becomes a Reiki channel for the life. Reiki channel is an aseptic
channel which never corrodes or destroys.
Reiki is easily learned, easily used, and is always extremely effective. Reiki
has been used to treat everything from minor ailments and accidents to
chronic disease. It has been successfully used alone and along with other
holistic modalities. It is not something that should only be done when one is
unwell – it is a measure to optimize ourselves on all fronts.
